The Scott Monument : The Scottish National War Memorial

Standing tall (in every sense of the word) on a steep volcanic mass of rock and flanked on three sides by colossal cliff s 400 feet above sea level, entry to the ancient fortress (since the 7th century) is via a precipitous trail on its east. Even though remnants of the day exist fewer and renovated, they include the 12th Century Chapel of St. Margaret, the Crown Square ensconced by the former Royal Apartments, the Great Hall, the Scottish National War Memorial, and the tower harbouring the Scottish Crown Jewels and Stone of Scone. And the castle revels in its monumental glory even now, serving as a prominent base of British forces in Scotland.
